Consider it demo day on this week’s episode of the AI Inside podcast. We go hands on with n8n, the new Sora app for iOS, and the Rabbit R1 update! Also, OpenAI’s big Dev Day with new SDKs and AgentKit, and Elon Musk’s xAI fundraising update. But first...

I installed n8n on my machine!
I’ve been n8n’d! What the heck is it? It’s an open-source automation tool for creating custom workflows that connect apps and services. It runs locally but can reach external systems like ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion via API calls. Setting it up can get a bit technical, but I got it installed and working, which feels great. It’s a no-code, drag and drop style environment. I envision using it to monitor Techmeme for AI stories, compile ideas, or summarize key info for work prep. Thanks to DrDew, an executive producer of the show, for introducing me to it.
If you use n8n for anything, email the show and we might read it on a future episode. I’d love to know what ya’ll are using it for.
OpenAI’s Dev Day Highlights
OpenAI’s big developer conference dropped a lot of news. They launched an SDK that turns ChatGPT into an app frontend platform with launch partners like Spotify and Canva. Developers can build apps integrated into ChatGPT chats, with interactive UI and real-time context sharing. AgentKit was introduced, a drag-and-drop GUI to create specialized chatbots, with workflow testing and pre-built widgets. They also teased an “agentic commerce protocol” for instant checkout with less user verification, which echoes Google’s recent protocol. Codex enhancements include Slack integration, an SDK for engineering workflows, and new admin tools. Usage-based pricing starts October 20.
Sora App Demo and Creativity Debate
Huge thank you to Anthony Downs for sending a Sora app invite after my callout. I got it set up on my wife’s iPad, and no I do not expect her to play with this app whatsoever. The app has been a big hit, reaching number one on the App Store, ahead of Gemini and ChatGPT, continuing to show OpenAI’s knack for creating viral buzz. But YouTube creators like Casey Neistat and MrBeast are worried about AI’s impact on creativity, calling it “scary times.” I think AI and human creativity can coexist, but maybe I’m being optimistic.
It’s a fun app, no doubt about it, but wow am I torn on it at the same time. I’m always fascinated by software that takes my likeness and does different things by it, but I am concerned about the flood of distrust that lies ahead as apps like these become plentiful and generations become ever more convincingly real.
If you want to find me, I’m “jasonhowell.”
Rabbit R1 Update and Nothing’s Essential OS have something in common
Remember the Rabbit R1? After a slow start, a big update called RabbitOS 2 is rolling out with a functional touchscreen, a colorful card-based UI, and vibe coding for user-made apps shareable via QR codes. But why carry two devices when phones do most of this?
Speaking of phones, Nothing is launching Essential, a new OS based on Android that lets users create no-code apps (widgets really) via their Nothing Playground. They believe smartphones will become community-driven with shared OS interactivity in 5-10 years. Is this the future of mobile devices?
Elon Musk’s xAI Raises $20 Billion
xAI is raising up to $20 billion, doubling its prior goal, with Nvidia backing. The fundraising features a special vehicle buying Nvidia chips and renting them to xAI. Bloomberg reports OpenAI deals with Nvidia, AMD, and Oracle forming a $1 trillion web of circular financing. These deals boost major players’ fortunes and may fuel an AI bubble. It raises the question: is circular financing a pyramid scheme or legitimate? The answer might lie in a gray area.
Deloitte Australia’s AI Faux Pas and New Partnership
Deloitte Australia will refund part of a $440,000 government welfare compliance report after it was found to include fake citations generated by GPT-4o. Fake studies and quotes by real academics were included. Deloitte admitted using generative AI but did not disclose it upfront, later removing those details. Interestingly, Anthropic and Deloitte also announced a new AI solutions partnership for finance, healthcare, and public services compliance soon after. I doubt one is related to the other, but boy the timing of these two stories is nuts.
Perplexity’s Comet Browser Goes Free
Perplexity’s Comet browser is now free for all users with no waitlist. A mobile app for iOS and Android is coming soon. A key upgrade is Background Assistants that work without keeping windows open.
Google’s Gemini 2.5 Computer Use Model
Google released Gemini 2.5 Computer Use, a specialized version of Gemini 2.5 Pro, through the Gemini API. It lets agents automate clicks, typing, and form filling on the web and mobile UI with low latency. It has built-in safety features to prevent prompt injection attacks. Developers can start testing and building now.
Nobel Prize in Physics Goes to Quantum Circuit Pioneers
John Clarke, Michel Devoret, and John Martinis won the Nobel Prize for demonstrating quantum tunneling in electric circuits. Their experiment with superconducting wires and Josephson junctions showed particles crossing barriers without obstruction. This work is foundational for quantum computing and relates to flash memory. It’s far above my pay grade, but congrats to these super smart scientists.
Google Home Gets Gemini Upgrade
Google Home devices are upgrading from Assistant to Gemini, aiming to work better. I haven’t received the update yet and remain skeptical. When it arrives, I’ll share if it improves anything in the Howell household.
