Google reached out to me and extended a special invite for me to come down to the Google campus last week and try on some new hardware its been working on in collaboration with Samsung. The platform being announced today is Android XR and Google is hoping to do for the XR world what it did for the smartphone world with the Android mobile operating system.
I spent time with Samsung’s VR prototype, Project Woohan. I also spent time with Google’s AR glasses, similar to the ones we all saw during Google I/O earlier this year. And yes, I got the full Project Astra treatment while wearing them.
I also got to meet with the people creating these projects and moving these efforts along. Shahram Izadi, VP and GM, AR/XR at Google as well as Kihwan Kim, EVP and Head of Immersive S/W, Samsung Electronics.
This week has been an absolutely blast. As I said coming out of the experience “I want more of THAT.”
You can read my full piece on Digital Trends here (and oh, by the way, I’m now a freelance writer at Digital Trends! Expect more from me there in the months ahead. YAY!)
You can watch my video on the experience here. Do not that I was not allowed to record any footage or take any pictures during the demo experience. But I recorded this vlog-style video to recount the experience. I hope I’ve done it all justice.
Thank you SO much for your support, for reading, for watching. You all continue to inspire me to extend outside my comfort zone and learn new things. This week is absolutely the fruits of that effort.
More to come for sure!
