Last week was craziness, no question. This week was a bit more on the chill side which was a nice counterpoint. But it’s about to get pretty crazy for me over the coming two weeks with a once-in-a-lifetime family vacation to Italy in June. More on that in a bit. But first, WHAT I DID THIS WEEK:
Techsploder #4 - Ron Richards
I knew this episode would be a ton of fun, primarily because Ron and I share so many touchpoints in our lives when it comes to the technologies that influenced us early on. I also really enjoyed learning more about Ron than I ever knew before, even after podcasting with the guy for 14+ years! Ron talks about his early childhood memories war dialing BBSs with an Apple II Plus, the moment the idea for his pinball technology company Scorbit was born, the technology that makes Disney parks so magical for him, and sneaking out of his hotel room to explore the legendary 1987 COMDEX.

AI Inside #18 - GPT-4o Voice Drama, Copilot + PC, Humane's Quibi Vibes
This was a week for AI drama, that’s for sure! I also tried something new with the thumbnail which was fun to conceptualize and then teach myself how to make people look Nintendo-like in that 16-bit glory. The Scarlett Johansson/OpenAI mess led to a fascinating conversation where Jeff compared this to an 80’s Bette Midler moment that’s worth highlighting. We also talk about the rapid-fire fizzling of Humane as it reportedly looks for a buyer. Not to mention, Microsoft’s MASSIVE showing at its Build conference with the introduction of the interest and controversial “Recall” feature tied to its Copilot + PC effort. Never a dull moment in AI right now.

Android Faithful #45 - The Google Investor Conference
We invited David Imel, co-host of MKBHD’s awesome WVFRM Podcast, to join us on our official post-Google IO round-up. David is so smart and such a fun dude. We spent some time on Android 15 Beta 2 release, stuff that might have been easy to overlook at the AI-heavy conference. We also shed light on Project Gameface, a very cool control interface for Android users with limited mobility where they can use their facial gestures and movements to control the experience. This would have been the kind of thing Google had shown off at IO in years past if AI wasn’t all the hotness. It also occurred to me after the podcast that Apple is doing something very similar with its next version of iOS. Funny how they mirror each other’s efforts in so many ways.

The weeks ahead
Let’s just say that the next few weeks are going to be jam packed for me when it comes to content production. Not only do I have what has become my normal slate of podcast duties (Android Faithful, AI Inside, and Techsploder Podcast) but I also have a total of THREE pre-records for both AI Inside and Techsploder Podcast to nail down. Why? Well, my family and I are taking a major vacation to Italy in June, an amazing journey across the country that we had already planned for prior to my layoff in December.
SO, I will be working my tail off to pre-produce six episodes on top of my normal workload so I can step away from the release schedule once we step away from American soil.
Techsploder Patrons can look forward to exclusive access to the recordings of the pre-recorded interviews as a cool perk that I started offering. If you are part of the $7 tier and above, you get that access and I will send out messages via Patreon with the details to join those pre-records. It went really well with the pre-record of Ron’s interview this week! I love this new perk.
AI Inside fans, I’m not certain that those pre-records will be viewable as its a much different production approach.
So I’m preparing myself physically and mentally for a few VERY busy production weeks. And I only hope I can release a product review or two during that time. There’s only so much Jason to go around! More and more, it’s feeling like investing in a video editor might be how I scale up my output. I gotta really wrap my head around that though. But the adage “gotta spend money to make money” seems more and more appropriate with what I’m doing right now.
Have a wonderful weekend, y’all, and thank you SO much for your support!
