Another week, another stream of content online! This is a game of patience, commitment, and a healthy amount of faith that it will all be ok if I keep the content flowing. And that is what I intend to do! I’m perhaps a LITTLE bummed as I write this because I had set myself a goal of getting my full review of the OnePlus Watch 2 onto my channel by the end of day today and, well, there’s no way that’s happening. LIFE gets in the way, so frequently, and it frustrates me when it happens, but I’m doing my best to go with the flow of life as opposed to fighting against it. Another commitment I made for the end of today is THIS HERE POST. So at least I’m making this happen for sure! The video review of the OnePlus Watch 2 will have to come on Monday. (There I said it out loud so now I HAVE to!) So NOW, what have I been up to this week, you ask?
Apple Vision Show #7 - The Apple AI Future
I am of course an “Android Guy” but I love having the opportunity to talk all about that Cupertino juggernaut Apple. The amazing ladies who host the new Apple Vision Show, Sarah Lane and Eileen Rivera, invited me on this Monday to talk all about the many ways in which Apple is poised to bring AI to the iPhone in 2024. From rumors that Apple might utilize Google’s Gemini AI platform, to some of the AI features that might be most useful to iPhone users. Also, we attempted to loosely define who the Android consumer is vs the iPhone user in 2024. Doing this show helped me realize that I sometimes have blinders on that keep me from noticing what’s up with Apple when it comes to its mobile business, and well, if you’ve seen the news this week, THERE’S A LOT HAPPENING THERE so I will pay closer attention.
AI Inside #9 - Microsoft’s Inflection Point
As I prepared the rundown for this week’s episode, I noticed that the regulation drumbeat is building rather swiftly here in the US and abroad when it comes to Artificial Intelligence. In the EU, the Artificial Intelligence Act set a host of new rules that effectively bans certain applications of AI, and here in the US, a new Utah law that aims to protect consumers from harmfully executed AI systems and services while requiring responsible disclosure. Guess what? More of these laws are on the way, so I invited Evan Brown, partner at Neal & McDevitt and author of evan.law to join Jeff Jarvis and me to examine how these two examples differ and what we can expect as other states roll out their own AI laws.
Also, Jeff and I talk through Microsoft’s BIG hire of Mustafa Suleyman as CEO of Microsoft AI, Nvidia CEO’s marathon reveal of the Blackwell B200 GPU, xAI’s release of its open source Grok, and YES, I brought the Apple/Gemini news to the AI Inside table to get Jeff’s insight there as well.
AI Inside Patron Bonus - Ideogram.ai for Logos!
Top-level Patreon supporters of AI Inside got a bonus exclusive video this week where I walk them through the ins and outs of using Ideogram.ai. This is perhaps my favorite online generative AI image generator and one of the things I LOVE about it is its proficiency in producing usable text. I’ve used it many times over the past year as I workshopped different ideas for podcast art, logos for my shows, you name it. So I fired up my studio equipment and recorded a loose 20-ish minute tutorial on using the tool to create usable logos from scratch! It gave me the opportunity to test my OBS setup and I got to put my Stream Deck to use for the first time. The best part was there was MINIMAL editing required because of the type of video it was… which was nice for a change, to be able to just record it, tighten it up a tiny bit, release it, and move on. I plan to do more stuff like this for the Yellowgold Studios channel as I play around with all kinds of approaches to see what resonates.
Consider supporting the show on Patreon to get access to exclusive content like this EVERY MONTH!
Android Faithful #36 - Searching for Circle to Search
We start this episode with the announcement of (drum roll) LONG AWAITED MERCH! We love the new t-shirt design, hopefully you do too and if you do, well, go grab one! And actually, the site is having a pretty big sale right now so you can get a steep discount until 3/25!
Aside from our excitement there, we also discussed the dates for Google IO and the possibility of having a LIVE Android Faithful party there. If you will be in the area and would be interested in a live event, fill out this BRIEF form and let us know so we can see if its worth exploring!
As for news, Mishaal reviewed the Zenfone 11 Ultra, we reminisced about Nintendo emulators now that Nintendo seems to be coming after the best ones on Android, Samsung’s possible return to square wearables… squareables? And so much more!
What I’m working on
Well, as I said at the top, I’m trying HARD to get the OnePlus Watch 2 review posted on my YouTube channel. I expect to have that up on Monday, so be on the lookout for that!
I’m nearing the end of my time with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which will likely be the next big review to hit the page. Ron Richards just shipped me a box filled with OnePlus devices to check out: OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12r, and OnePlus Buds 3.
As for music-tech content, I think I’ve decided that those videos will reside on a different channel altogether. The more I’ve researched (and I’ve even chatted with YouTube Liason Rene Ritchie about this), the more I realize one very important thing about YouTube: “same audience, same channel; different audience, different channel.” I know SOME of the audience would be ok with the music tech stuff, but I think a lot of people wouldn’t care much and all that would do is throw off the recommendation engine for the Yellowgold Studios channel. So I’m going to tailor my personal YouTube channel for the music content and consider that channel my “passion project” playground if that makes sense. More on that to come.
PHEW. There’s more, but, you know that thing called life? It’s knocking so I have to make some dinner for the family. Stay classy, yall!
