Our Italy vacation is literally days away at this point. So this week, on top of my normal weekly output, I was knee-deep in pre-records and edits for EVERYTHING. Needless to say, I’ve been chained to this computer and I am ready for a break. Here’s what you can enjoy NOW!
AI Inside #20: The UNTOLD STORY of How AI Fueled the ANOM Takedown
Joseph Cox is one of my favorite guests having joined me on Tech News Weekly many times over the years when he worked for VICE and more recently, once we and his VICE crew started 404media. He literally wrote the book on one of the largest FBI-driven honeypots ever, a story you certainly heard about a few years ago. Joseph did groundbreaking coverage of the inside story and collected it all for this book, “Dark Wire”. On AI Inside, he gave Jeff Jarvis and me a look at how AI was used to sift through the insane amount of data collected through these “encrypted” criminal enterprise smartphones that led to many arrests.
Also, we talk about several big AI chip announcements (and how I easily get in over my head with the details), and I do a demo of how Perplexity’s new Pages feature works.

Techsploder Podcast #6 - Christina Warren
We did things a little differently this week on the podcast. I invited my friend Christina Warren to join me for a LIVE recording on Friday which doesn’t change the episode much… but it almost did! Christina and I got about 7 minutes into the “recording” of the podcast when I was alerted by Catie Lake, my awesome community manager, that the stream was not going. This meant that not only were people not watching the awesome interview, but it wasn’t recording at all either! So we stopped immediately, opened things up, and went again. As Christina pointed out, in media production, if you haven’t done this yet, it’s only a matter of time. PHEW.
Anyway, we had an awesome conversation about Christina’s penchant for tech (and shoe) collectibles, her gaming roots that led to a lifetime passion in tech, and the awesome horrible Geocities sites she created along the way (that are next to impossible to find now with time.) We also talk about the desire to hoard all of our data, the difficulty of that as time goes on and storage increases, and the actual value of all that data to anyone other than ourselves. Fascinating stuff!

Android Faithful #47 - “Find My” Finally Found
This guy LOVES alliteration, let me tell ya. Mishaal Rahman has been waiting patiently for Android’s Find My network to light up and it finally happened! Mishaal shows off his new tracker collection that taps into the new updates. Also, I share my Cliff’s Notes review of the Pixel 8a (the full review can be found here), and Android (not just Pixels) got a pretty sizeable feature drop that you’ll want to know about!
Also big thanks to the crew for holding down the fort while I’m gone this month!!

What to expect during the next three weeks
Well, y’all. I am a few days away from leaving for Washington DC to visit friends for a few days. This is also meant to help calibrate us a bit closer to our Italy vacation which we leave for a week from today. We will be in Italy throughout the rest of June. So the next live show I will be online for will be on Wednesday, July 3 at 11 am PT with Jeff Jarvis on AI Inside. Yes, I will most certainly be completely jet-lagged!
SO then, I have planned, pre-recorded, and prepped a total of SIX podcasts to release during my time away at the usual cadence. I have some AMAZING guests with varied backgrounds lined up and why keep it a secret? Sharing is caring right?
Three episodes of the Techsploder podcast, premiering every Friday at 10 am Pacific on the Techsploder YouTube channel.
June 14 - Dick DeBartolo
June 21 - Liam Spradlin
June 28 - Lamarr Wilson
Three episodes of AI Inside podcast, premiering every Wednesday at 11 am Pacific on the Techsploder YouTube channel.
Justin Uberti, CEO of Fixie and AI.town (creator of WebRTC, topics include voice conversations with AI)
Nikita Roy, host of “Newsroom Robots” (talking about how AI is impacting journalism and the newsroom)
Dmitry Shapiro and Sean Thielen, from MindStudio (talking about how to build custom AI integrations to improve and simplify workflows)
I also have a few hands-on videos to release throughout that time. I spent some time with the Udio AI music generation system and fed my own original music into the system to see how it remixed my work. It was an eye-opening experience! Also, I did an unboxing/first look at the updated SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro White wireless headphones with an improved ANC design. So look for those in the coming weeks as well.
FOLKS. Let me tell you, I worked 12-16 hour days for nearly two weeks getting ready for this vacation. It was an education in what it really takes to pummel out this amount of content in a short period of time. If doing it all completely alone at this tempo was my reality, I don’t think I could do it long-term. I’d burn out far too quickly. And I’m fully aware of that which is a blessing.
When I return from Italy, I will be prioritizing finding edit support. At the end of the day, I have so many ideas and I WANT to increase my output, but I am limited by the time and energy that I have to do it all. So if I want to grow my output, I HAVE to bring on some help in the editing department. I already have ideas for how to tackle this.
But that is a problem to solve AFTER I get back from our amazing, once-in-a-lifetime vacation through Italy with the family and my mom. I’m out of my mind excited and it’s so close, we can all taste it.
Thank you deeply for your support. I hope you enjoy all the work we’ve put in to keep the content stream rolling while I’m away. I’ll see you on the other side of Italy.
Buongiorno!
Have an excellent, restful, and epic vacation. However, it would be cool to get a little insight into what AI (and tech) looks like from Italy! Where are they using it? How are they using it? Have a blast.
